In the arena there were loud cheers for the victor. On the battlefield there were only the cries of the defeated. In both cases, the cocks and balls the losers became trophies for the winners. They could be kept to bring more good fortune to the winners, or they could be sold for a tidy sum to someone seeking good fortune.
