Paul Peterson
#1
Paul Peterson was a young actor in two civil war movies. In one he was a reb on his way to join up. But before he got there two card sharks put two bullets in his guts. His last words were, "it hurts". He was a union soldier in his next one, a young bugle boy. He got it in  the guts in this movie too. A reb wanted to get one more blue belly and shot the kid probably right in his belly button. He was clutching this area just before he died. Later the reb got it right in his belly. He clutched his belly and said, "it hurts" which is, of course, what Paul Peterson said in his first movie.

Paul Petersen was most famous as the son on THE DONNA REED SHOW in the late fifties. He actually started his career as a Mouseketeer on Disney at age 10! The films you mentioned were part of his attempts to move into adult roles. Pizza Boy and I carefully studied his scene in JOURNEY TO SHILOH, made when he was 22. He definitely knew how to play getting a bellyful of lead!

Peterson was the bugle boy in A Time For Killing. As of right now, but who knows for how long, the full movie is on You Tube. In another good scene a young union soldier (at 16:10) gets a bayonet shoved all the way through his belly. When he was shot Peterson had his hand over his belly button so we have to assume he was shot in his guts.

One of the best actors to get it in the guts was Sal Mineo. In the Longest Day and Escape from Zahrain he got it twice in his belly. In Escape he was a 18 year old rebel. With two bullets in his guts he asked the rebel leader if he was going to die and when he was told he was dying he said he was scared. The leader held him and said they were with him and the kid then died in his arms.

It's been a while since I watched it, but Sal was also shot in TONKA, a Disney film about the Battle of Little Big Horn.   He survived... but others (obviouisly) did not.

In that movie Sal appears to have been shot almost in his belly button. Definitely in the guts. But he did survive. He was 18 or 19 when he made the film. I guess it was okay for him  to live in this movie even with the belly wound since he died in several other movies after getting it bad in the guts. And even though he did live in Tonka his guts had to be hurting bad as if they were on fire.

Johnny Crawford had the best line ever when he said "my insides feel like they are on fire". Probably because John Wayne had just shot him in his belly button.
